The Hikari Flea Market is not a huge flea market, but it is a great place to hunt for some treasures. Sometimes I find some treasures and sometimes I don’t. Today was one of the times I did find something I felt I needed to take home with me. Today, I found the most perfect red and gold obi that is perfect to use for Christmas. I have been looking for a Christmas obi! The best part is that it only cost ¥500! Yup. Less than $5.
There are different vendors, selling different items. Today, I saw a couple of places that had old kimonos and obis. If you are crafty with a needle and some thread, you could do some wonderful things with the old kimonos and even some of the obis.
Some people are selling used items and antiques, while others are selling their handmade crafts. One of my favorite vendors at this flea market is this one that sells cute little aprons and bags, among other things. All for a very reasonable price too!
If you collect kokeshi dolls, there were a couple of vendors today that had a really great selection of the adorable wooden dolls.
There was even a vendor selling fresh vegetables. There wasn’t a huge selection, but the prices were very reasonable.
Hungry? This fried chicken vendor was so nice and was offering samples. It was delicious! He even had it all packaged up and ready to go for those who want to take some home and enjoy it later. I would have munched on some while I was walking around, but I already had my heart set on having a delicious burger from KUTI for lunch later.
Looking for some plants? You can find that here too! I didn’t get a picture, but I also saw a vendor selling honey and another one selling oranges.
There was even some live music to enjoy today while walking around.
The Hikari flea market is held on every 4th Sunday at Fugenji Temple. They start at sunrise and start packing things up between 1pm and 2pm (there was one gentleman who was still setting up his area when I got there a little after 0800 though). The drive is pretty easy, no tolls, and it only takes a little over an hour from Iwakuni.
